'The Power of Three' hosts two well established and talented Uk Jazz musicians: Laurence Cottle on Electric bass and Jim Watson on piano.
The recording took place at Chapel Arts Gallery, Cheltenham.
As opposed to his previous projects, I decided I wanted to create a 'Live' recording session that worked as a jam session by performing some of his favourite Jazz standards and tunes that I enjoyed playing across the last years in concerts.
In this way the sounds and interaction of the band become in the final result of the recording much more authentic and closer to reality.
The recording took place at Chapel Arts Gallery in Cheltenham. The large space in the Art Gallery offers a big, resonant and authentic sound to the three instruments quite the opposite of a recording studio with separate and insulated rooms thus a more dry sound.
The choice of music was also important to me. I wanted to include a variety of styles of music from past to present composers and not only confined to the Jazz tradition.
So here on this album you can hear music by Charlie Parker, Sam Jones, Bobby Timmons, Chick Corea, Michel Petrucciani but also by composers such as Ennio Morricone, Stevie Wonder, Pino Daniele and there's also an original tune dedicate to his niece Nina.
